IBM report details extended financial impact of data breaches
The one that is apparent is the cost of a cybersecurity breach is rising. A new report from IBM finds the cost of a data breach has risen 12% over the past 5 years, which now on average costs $3.92 million. The report also notes that companies with less than 500 employees suffered losses of more than $2.5 million on average. Data breach costs in the U.S. are on average highest at $8.19 million, more than double the worldwide average.

But as more organisations come to rely on public cloud deployments, and complexity grows, so do security risks. IT teams need not only the right tools to respond to cyber-attacks but also to identify and remediate policy violations stemming from insider threats. EMEA businesses ignoring the cloud when it comes to backup
That’s according to the findings of a new study of 432 IT professionals, business executives and backup administrators released today by Barracuda Networks, the leader in cloud-enabled security and data protection solutions. The study was commissioned to celebrate World Backup Day, with the aim to examine the attitudes of EMEA organisations to backup and recovery.
Cybersecurity spending on the rise is both good and bad news
The survey finds the majority of organizations planning to increase spending were mid-sized to larger companies (69%). In contrast, 46 percent of all respondents said their cybersecurity spending will remain flat or down slightly, with 62 percent of those organizations having fewer than 100 employees.
